State of North East India has been awarded the “OSCAR for Best Policies” by UN in 2018. Apparently Sikkim has become the World’s First 100% Organic State. To recognize and honour, the UN has chosen Sikkim of India from 25 competing countries and awarded UN Future Policy Gold Award 2018. Nicknamed the ‘OSCAR for Best Policies’, the award is co-organised with the FAO by the World Future Council (WFC) and IFOAM – Organics International, and recognises ‘the world’s best laws and policies promoting ‘Agroecology’.

NEH region is home to 4 Agro–ecological zones of the country out of 21. About 0.88 Million Ha area is under shifting cultivation that regenerates itself in natural process. Total forest cover in the region is 13.02 Million ha, which is about 49.65 per cent of its geographical area as against the national average of 19.39 per cent.
The region is hot spot of bio–diversity having many endemic species which accounts more than 50 Bamboo species, 6000 Rice lines, 14 Banana Species, 17 species of Citrus, 600 Orchids out of which 175 are Rare and Many Medicinal and Aromatic plants. The aquatic bodies of the region harbour a rich diversity of ichthyo fauna 274 Fish species belonging to 114 genera under 37 families and 10 orders constitute about 34 per cent of the total Freshwater Fish species of the country.
With infusion of Modern Scientific Agriculture practices minus the chemical, the Unique varieties of Produce from the region are indeed Premium products. Many of the produce, be it Exotic Fruits, Nuts and Rice are only found and produced in the region, that could attract premium customer from across the world to market them to the palates of those who are keen to Exotic International cuisine. With constant Govt. support and vast agricultural land that are being brought under regular cultivation, coupled with suitable climatic condition and rich natural resources, reliable growth, production and supply could be met.
